Stay a While

Room to gather. Space to wander. A place to call your own.

From the original 1940s school dormitory to a secluded family home overlooking the valley, accommodation at Little Outfit Ranch is designed for those who appreciate history, character and a little breathing room.

Whether you're travelling solo, gathering the family or planning a special occasion, there's a place here to settle in and stay a while.

The Dorm

A little rustic charm. A lot of history.

Built in the 1940s as part of the original Little Outfit School, The Dorm has been thoughtfully maintained as a welcoming home away from home.

Original hardwood floors, cosy bedrooms and generous shared spaces preserve much of its character, while modern comforts make it an easy place to settle in.

With five bedrooms, three bathrooms and accommodation for up to 13 guests in existing beds, The Dorm is especially suited to family gatherings, small group getaways and travellers looking to experience ranch life firsthand.

Additional sleeping arrangements for up to three guests may be available in the Arizona Room, by prior arrangement.

Stay your way.

Individual bedrooms may be reserved with shared access to the kitchen, bathrooms and communal spaces. Guests seeking greater privacy can book the entire Dorm, with private-use arrangements also available when reserving the Sweet Room and two additional bedrooms.

The largest bedroom in The Dorm, the Sweet Room offers a king-size bed, a spacious private bathroom and windows overlooking the northern and western sides of the property. A lovely choice for longer stays or those who appreciate a little extra room to unwind.

The Family Room

Queen bed + queen/twin bunk | $125 per night

Made for families travelling together. Located just off the kitchen, this room features a queen-size bed and an adjoining sleeping space with a queen-and-twin bunk bed. North-facing windows look towards the historic schoolhouse.

The Mulberry Room

Two twin beds | $100 per night

A cosy room overlooking the yard and its beautiful old mulberry tree. Located opposite the Mud Room, it's especially convenient for cyclists and outdoor adventurers heading out early to explore.

The Sunrise Room

Queen bed | $100 per night

For those who love the quiet of an early morning. East-facing windows welcome the day's first light, making this a lovely place to wake slowly and watch the ranch come to life.

The Sunset Room

Two twin beds | $100 per night

Tucked against the western ridge, this peaceful room enjoys naturally softer morning light. Room-darkening shades make it particularly suited to those who prefer a slower start to the day.

A Place to Come Together

The Arizona Room

The heart of The Dorm.

With timber finishes, screened walls and views across the surrounding landscape, this generous 20-by-30-foot space blurs the line between indoors and out.

Gather for an afternoon drink, roll out a yoga mat, share a meal or settle into one of the comfortable chairs with a good book.

Open to the sights and sounds of the ranch while sheltered from the elements, it's a space made for lingering.

Kitchen + Lounge

The spacious, open-plan kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, gas range and everyday cooking essentials, allowing guests to prepare their own meals and enjoy the freedom of a self-catered stay.

The adjoining lounge offers comfortable seating, a television, dining space and a small reading nook for quieter moments.

The Mud Room

A practical space for life outdoors, with room to store bicycles, hang coats and backpacks, and leave muddy boots behind after a day on the trails.

Bathrooms + Laundry

The Dorm has three bathrooms, including a refurbished south bathroom, an east bathroom with separate toilet facilities and laundry amenities, and the spacious Sweet Bathroom with a bathtub and double vanity.

Bathroom access and shared facilities depend on individual room and whole-property reservations.

Casa Alta

A private retreat above the valley.

Built in the 1970s by Larry Robbins as a family home, Casa Alta offers a more secluded way to experience Little Outfit Ranch.

Spacious and thoughtfully positioned to take in the landscape, the home features five bedrooms, four bathrooms and sweeping views of the San Rafael Valley.

A long south-facing veranda invites slow mornings and lingering afternoons, while smaller porches to the east and west offer intimate corners to enjoy the surrounding countryside. A private pool and spa complete the experience.

With ten beds accommodating up to 12 guests, Casa Alta is particularly well suited to extended families, private gatherings and special occasions.

For larger celebrations, Casa Alta and The Dorm can be reserved together, providing accommodation for up to 28 guests when additional approved sleeping arrangements are included.

Casa Alta is available for a limited number of bookings. Reservations include exclusive guest occupancy of the ranch's accommodation, with the Dorm held from other bookings unless reserved as part of your group. Ranch management remains on site.

ENQUIRE ABOUT CASA ALTA

A LITTLE HISTORY

Some places hold more than memories. They hold generations.

Much of what stands at Little Outfit Ranch today dates back to the 1940s, when the property was home to a small boarding school for children from the Midwest.

Its original one-room schoolhouse, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, remains beautifully preserved, with photographs and artefacts offering a glimpse into the ranch's earliest days.

The original dormitory has found a new life as guest accommodation, while Casa Alta, built by the Robbins family in the 1970s, sits overlooking the surrounding valley.

More than eighty years after its beginnings, the ranch continues to welcome people seeking much the same things: open space, adventure, connection and time together.

LIFE ON THE RANCH

Still a working ranch. Always a place to feel at home.

Little Outfit remains a working ranch, with horses, cattle, goats, chickens, friendly dogs and a few resident barn cats sharing the property.

Guests may have the opportunity to observe daily ranch life, meet some of its four-legged residents or, with permission from the ranch manager, lend a hand with occasional ranch activities.

Beyond the fences, the surrounding landscape is home to an abundance of wildlife, offering endless opportunities for curious explorers, birdwatchers and nature lovers.

And while there's plenty to discover, there's something equally special about doing very little at all.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

A little adventure, right outside your door.

Follow the trail to Sunset Point for sweeping views across the valley and into Mexico, or venture further towards Mama Mountain, where a more challenging ascent rewards experienced hikers with extraordinary views.

The Arizona Trail, one of the country's National Scenic Trails, can be reached by a 1.5-mile trail from the ranch, opening up miles of further exploration.

Closer to home, discover seasonal pools, wooded canyons and a waterfall that makes an occasional appearance after the rains.

Whether you come with hiking boots, a bicycle, your own horse or simply a good book, there's room here to make the experience your own.

Please note: Little Outfit Ranch offers self-guided exploration and accommodation rather than scheduled guest activities. Equestrian assistance and arrangements for larger groups may be available upon request.
