The Ranch

160 acres of open country. A little history. A slower way of life.

Tucked into its own quiet corner of Arizona's San Rafael Valley, Little Outfit Ranch is a place to leave the noise behind and settle into the rhythm of the land.

Set across 160 acres of private ranchland, the property sits where the valley's wide-open grasslands meet the forested mountains beyond. Seasonal creeks, natural pools, wooded canyons and winding trails invite exploration, while neighbouring Coronado National Forest stretches for miles in almost every direction.

Here, days are yours to make of them. Rise early to walk the trails, spend an afternoon beneath the trees, or simply find a quiet place to sit and take in the view.

There's no itinerary to follow….That's rather the point.

A LITTLE HISTORY

Some places hold more than memories. They hold generations.

Much of what stands at Little Outfit Ranch today dates back to the 1940s, when the property was home to a small boarding school for children from the Midwest.

Its original one-room schoolhouse, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, remains beautifully preserved, with photographs and artefacts offering a glimpse into the ranch's earliest days.

The original dormitory has found a new life as guest accommodation, while Casa Alta, built by the Robbins family in the 1970s, sits overlooking the surrounding valley.

More than eighty years after its beginnings, the ranch continues to welcome people seeking much the same things: open space, adventure, connection and time together.

LIFE ON THE RANCH

Still a working ranch. Always a place to feel at home.

Little Outfit remains a working ranch, with horses, cattle, goats, chickens, friendly dogs and a few resident barn cats sharing the property.

Guests may have the opportunity to observe daily ranch life, meet some of its four-legged residents or, with permission from the ranch manager, lend a hand with occasional ranch activities.

Beyond the fences, the surrounding landscape is home to an abundance of wildlife, offering endless opportunities for curious explorers, birdwatchers and nature lovers.

And while there's plenty to discover, there's something equally special about doing very little at all.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

A little adventure, right outside your door.

Follow the trail to Sunset Point for sweeping views across the valley and into Mexico, or venture further towards Mama Mountain, where a more challenging ascent rewards experienced hikers with extraordinary views.

The Arizona Trail, one of the country's National Scenic Trails, can be reached by a 1.5-mile trail from the ranch, opening up miles of further exploration.

Closer to home, discover seasonal pools, wooded canyons and a waterfall that makes an occasional appearance after the rains.

Whether you come with hiking boots, a bicycle, your own horse or simply a good book, there's room here to make the experience your own.

Please note: Little Outfit Ranch offers self-guided exploration and accommodation rather than scheduled guest activities. Equestrian assistance and arrangements for larger groups may be available upon request.
